This refers to the special fiRC site visit attended by Messrs. A. Fresco, K. Sullivan and J. Ulie of this office on December 9-10, 1986, as requested by your letter of Novembcr 20, 1986, and to the discussion at the conclusion of the site visit with Mr. D. Draun and others of your staff. Additional information concerning this site visit was discussed on February 26, 1987, during a telephone call between Mr. Ulie of my staff and Mr. !!olzahn of your staff. The purpose of this site visit was to discuss your staff's program approach to implement Sections III.G, J, L, and 0 of 10 CFR 50, Appendix R at the Kewaunce !!uclear Power Plant.
The enclosure of this letter documents the details of the Appendix R areas discussed with ycur staff during the visit. Within these areas, the visit consisted of area wide familiarization tours, a walkthrough of certain safe shutdown procedures, and discussions regarding the overall design philosophy approach to satisfying the applicable Sections of Appendix R including certain general observations made during the inplant tours.
As conveyed by Mr. Ulic during the telephcne call of February 26, 1987, completion of certain details as discussed in the enclostre are planned to be followed up on during the upccming Appendix R ccrrpliance inspection scheduled for the week of April 27, 1987.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Comissicn's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed site visit details will be placed in the NRC Public Documcnt Room.
