Dear Sir or Madam:
By the letter dated August 7, 2002, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested that a storage location for classified information be provided within the protected area of the Harris Plant that will permit storage and facilitate review of classified information.
Three options were provided by the NRC for accomplishing this objective: 1) relocate the resident inspector office inside the protected area, 2) provide a satellite resident office inside the protected area, or 3) install a small two drawer NRC security container inside the protected area, preferably inside the Central Alarm Station (CAS) or the Secondary Alarm Station (SAS).
The Harris Nuclear Plant (HNP) has elected option 3) to install a small two drawer NRC security container inside the protected area in the CAS. HNP commits to not moving the aforementioned security container from the CAS, once it is installed, without permission from the NRC.
In accordance with your letter requesting this storage container, HNP will not attempt to gain access to the container without permission of the NRC, and if the container is found unlocked and unattended, we will immediately notify the resident inspector or the NRC Headquarters Operations Officer and guard the contents of the container until NRC personnel are present.
