COMANCHE PEAK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 EMERGENCY RESPONSE DATA SYSTEM CHANGES
Dear Sir or Madam:
Pursuant to 10CFR50 Appendix E, Section VI, "Maintaining the Emergency Response Data System,"
Luminant Generation Company LLC (Luminant Power) hereby submits this letter to inform the NRC of pending hardware and software changes that could affect the transmission format and computer communication protocol to the Emergency Response Data System (ERDS). The changes are scheduled to be implemented in July 2011.
The changes will involve a conversion from a dial-up modem system to a more reliable internet based utility using a plant information server (PI) and NRC supplied virtual private network (VPN) appliance.
During transition to the VPN based system, the existing ERDS link will remain available and will not affect the plant's ability to activate the ERDS if required.
This communication contains no new licensing basis coimmitments regarding Comanche Peak Units 1 and 2.
