Roger Hannah, 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford, 404-997-4416 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Surry Nuclear Power Station Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Louis McKown as the NRC Senior Resident Inspector at the Surry Nuclear Power Station near Surry, Va., located approximately 17 miles northwest of Newport News.

McKown joins Resident Inspector Carey Mac Read at the two-unit plant, which is operated by Dominion Energy.

McKown joined the NRC in 2013 and was most recently the resident inspector at the Millstone nuclear power plant in Connecticut.

Prior to that, he was a project engineer for the Division of Reactor Projects in the NRCs Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pa.

Before joining the NRC, McKown worked as a senior systems engineer at the Nine Mile Point nuclear power plant in New York, specializing in reactivity controls and emergency core cooling systems.

McKown served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a nuclear reactor operator. He earned a bachelors degree with highest distinction in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors who serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
