The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region III staff on this date.

PALISADES FORCED SHUTDOWN TO REPLACE LEAKING CONTROL ROD DRIVE (CRD) SEAL PACKAGES (UPDATE)

DESCRIPTION:

On August 9, 2008, the Palisades plant resumed operation after a maintenance outage that was started on August 5, 2008, to replace leaking CRD seals. The reactor was made critical at 6:48 p.m. EDT on August 9, 2008, and the main generator was synchronized to the grid at 4:31 a.m. on August 10, 2008. The licensee replaced five control rod drive seals during the outage. The resident inspectors observed the licensee returning the plant to operation.

The State of Michigan will be notified. The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management.
