Draft Request for Additional Information for Aerotest License Renewal Date: Thursday, March 29, 2018 11:14:19 AM Attachments:

How to UNZIP.html SecureZIP Attachments.zip Mike, By letter dated December 20, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession Nos. ML17363A303 and ML18045A571), Aerotest Operations, Inc. (Aerotest) submitted its updated Safety Analysis Report (SAR) for renewal of Facility Operating License No. R-98 for the Aerotest Radiography and Research Reactor (ARRR)for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review. In the course of reviewing Aerotest's December 20, 2017, SAR, the NRC staff has determined that additional information is required to complete its evaluation.

This information is necessary to demonstrate Aerotest's compliance with the regulations contained in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Parts 20, "Standards for Protection against Radiation" and 50, "Domestic Licensing of Production and Utilization Facilities."

Therefore, the NRC staff has prepared the attached draft request for additional information (RAI). We are providing a copy of this draft, prior to formally transmitting the RAI, to provide Aerotest with an opportunity to review the draft to ensure that the RAI is clear and understandable.

So that Aerotest has time to review the draft, we will wait at least 10 working days from the date of this email before formally transmitting the RAI. If you have any questions regarding the draft RAI, please contact me as soon as possible and we can arrange a time to discuss. I would also request that you please contact me after you have reviewed the RAI in order to discuss an appropriate response time for the RAI. Additionally, we request that Aerotest also review this draft RAI to ensure that proprietary or other sensitive information has not been inadvertently included. Should any sensitive information be identified, please contact me within the next 10 working days from the date of this email. Please note that, because the RAI is still a draft, changes to the document before it is formally transmitted to Aerotest are possible. This email will be placed in public ADAMS. After 10 working days, if Aerotest has not indicated that is has identified any sensitive information in this draft RAI, the draft RAI attachment will also be placed in public ADAMS. The attachment is encrypted with SecureZip.

Please give myself or Cindy Montgomery (301-415-3398) a call and we can provide the password. Thanks, Ed Ed Helvenston, U.S. NRC Research and Test Reactor Licensing Branch (PRLB)
