LER ATTACHMENT - RO #2-82-133 Facility: BSEP Unit No. 2 Event Date: December 4, 1982 An investigation of the indication problem affecting control rod 18-11 revealed a defective IC chip, G33, and a defective transistor, Q16, in the rod position indication probe buffer board, General Electric Part No. 719E351PIRC, had caused the continuous " full-in" indication with the rod. G33 and Q16 were replaced and position indication for the rod was returned to normal.

Initial troubleshooting of the indication problems affecting rods 10-31 and 38-23 showed the most probable cause of these problems is a defective rod position indication probe reed switch in each rod.

The problems affecting these rods will be fully investigated and resolved during a future outage.

These type indication problems do not constitute a safety hazard and occur occasionally; therefore, no design modifications are planned regarding these problems.
