ENCLOSURE BELLEFONTE NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 UNCONTROLLED PARTS FOR BATTERY CHARGERS FROM POWER CONVERSION PRODUCTS, INC.

NCR BL-2-P BLRD-50-438/83-05 10 CFR 50.55(e)

FIRST INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency Amplifier boarca (replacement parts) purchased for the Class IE 125V de battery obergers were ordered by vendor part number from Power Conversion Products, Ind). (PCP), Charlotts, North Carolina. The same part number is also comon to the non-Class IE 24V do, 48V do, and 125V do battery chargers; however, the amplifier boards are actually modified by the vendor for use in each respective type of charger.

The failure of the vendor te identify the differences between the amplifie.a boards caused the wrong amplifier board to be placed in the Class IE 125V de battery charger, thus resulting in erratic operation of the charger.

Interim Progress.

  • 1VA has contacted PCP and they have stated that the problem is nothing more than a drawing error and will confim this by telex. TVA is awaiting the telex from PCP to determine if this problem is an isolated occurrence or is generic in nature.
