Dresden Scope of Environmental Impact Hearing August 20,2024 submission of support by the Coal City Fire District:

On Behalf of the Coal City Fire District:

  • Past and current emergency plans and agreement with the Coal City Fire District are practical and effective.
  • Coal City Fire District accommodates special equipment needs necessary to serve Dresden Station.
  • Dresden personnel are committed to executing their responsibilities under the plan in the event of an emergency.
  • Dresden personnel and management are committed to participating in further development of working with the Coal City Fire District.
  • Our experience with Dresden has proven their main concern is nuclear safety and radioactive material release along with life safety, environmental, plant damage and necessary equipment and our commitment and assistance in fighting fires.
  • It has been demonstrated over the years that their work has been focused on fire prevention and mitigation.
  • Our fire and emergency response history has been for EMS calls, a transformer and structure fire.
  • We are one of seven local taxing bodies that have successfully negotiated a real estate tax agreement over the past 12 years. Their support and engagement in working towards an amicable agreement has been demonstrated repeatedly. We are grateful for that agreement and their willingness to negotiate!
  • Communication and interaction with Site Vice President, Carolyne Joseph and Manager, Local Government Affairs Sharon Johnson has been frequent, informative, and cooperative! They meet with us regularly to answer questions and provide updates. An example of community interaction is the Dresden Merit Badge Day where we participate for the Fire Safety Merit Badge. The Dresden employees have also given their time and money to local charity initiatives.

We wholeheartedly support the license renewal of Dresden Unit #2 and #3 and look forward to collaborating with them in the future.

Sincerely, Randy Alderson President Board of Trustees Coal City Fire District
