RE: ER24-431 Palisades Nuclear Plant Subsequent License Renewal, Covert Township, Van Buren County (NRC)

Dear Jennifer Davis,

We have reviewed the revised Architectural History Survey of Palisades Nuclear Plant, Van Buren County, Michigan submitted to satisfy the cultural resource management responsibilities under Sections 110 and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.

It is the opinion of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) that the Containment Building cannot be considered separately from the remaining parts of the Palisades Nuclear Plant (PNP) Building, as all portions of the greater PNP Building were constructed concurrently and intended to serve as parts of a whole. With that in mind, the SHPO does not feel that the PNP Building, or the Palisades Nuclear Complex as a whole, rises to the level of significance required for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under Criteria C for Architecture/Engineering.

If you have any survey specific questions, please contact Katie Kolokithas, Survey Coordinator, at 517-285-9248 or by email at kolokithask1@michigan.gov and questions on general Section 106 consultation, please contact Scott Slagor, Cultural Resource Protection Manager, at 517-285-5120 or by email at slagors2@michigan.gov. Please reference our project number in all communication with this office regarding this undertaking. Thank you for this opportunity to review and comment, and for your cooperation

Sincerely,

Cassandra Nelson
