NRC Renews Comanche Peak Operating Licenses

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has renewed the operating licenses of Comanche Peak Units 1 and 2 for an additional 20 years.

Comanche Peak Units 1 and 2 are pressurized-water reactors about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Texas. Unit 1s operating license will now expire Feb. 8, 2050, and Unit 2s on Feb.

2, 2053.

The NRCs review of the application proceeded on two tracks. A safety evaluation report was issued in March, and a final supplemental environmental impact statementwas issued in April. These documents, as well as other information regarding the Comanche Peak license renewal application, are available on the NRC website, which also contains information about the license renewal process.
