NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Site: http://www.nrc.gov No.07-117 September 11, 2007 NRC STAFF APPROVES TRANSFER OF COMANCHE PEAK OPERATING LICENSE The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has approved the transfer of the operating license for the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station from owner TXU Generation Company LP to new owner Luminant Generation Company LLC. As provided by NRC regulations, the staff's approval of the transfer was effective September 10.
TXU Generation Company submitted an application April 18 requesting approval of the license transfer. As part of Texas Energy LPs purchase of TXU Corp., which owns TXU Generation Company, the transfer will create an intermediate parent company, Luminant Holdco, between TXU Corp. and TXU Generation, which will become Luminant Generation. Major issues considered by the NRC included financial and technical qualifications, as well as the transfer and maintenance of accumulated decommissioning funds.
A copy of the NRC's approval order and accompanying non-proprietary safety evaluation report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Room O-1 F23, Rockville, MD 20852 (telephone 1-800-397-4209 or 301-415-4737). The non-proprietary safety evaluation will also be available on the NRCs Agency-wide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS), by entering ML072220130 at this address: http://adamswebsearch.nrc.gov/dologin.htm. Help in using ADAMS is available by calling the Public Document Room.
