BFN-21 6.0 EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SYSTEMS 6.1 SAFETY OBJECTIVE The objective of the Emergency Core Cooling Systems (ECCS), in conjunction with the primary and secondary containments, is to limit the release of radioactive materials to the environs following a loss-of-coolant accident, so that resulting radiation exposures are kept to a practical minimum and are within the guideline values given in 10 CFR 50.67.
