SUBJECT:

PURDUE UNIVERSITYLICENSE AMENDMENT FOR CHANGE OF RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER

Dear Mr. Butt:

I would like to introduce myself, Rick Jervey, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

Project Manager (PM). I recently moved to the Division overseeing the Purdue Special Nuclear Material license and have been asked to support the needs of Purdue University. Ty Naquin, the current PM, will be sending a letter when our assignments are confirmed. That should be effective around May 24, 2021. Excuse the formality of this message. I welcome any inquiries related to the NRCs oversight of Purdue Universitys licensed activities and supporting your needs. My contact information: Richard.jervey@nrc.gov. 301-415-6291.

By correspondence dated April 30, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession Number ML21125A092), you provided a request to change the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for your Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) License in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, (10 CFR) Part 70, Domestic Licensing of Special Nuclear Materials.

The NRC staff has performed an acceptance review of your submittal to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information to allow the NRC staff to conduct a detailed technical review. Based on this review, completed May 7, 2021, the NRC staff concludes the submittal contains information in sufficient detail to enable the staff to conduct its review. Accordingly, the NRC staff has established a schedule for this review which includes the issuance of requests for additional information (RAIs), if any, by May 17, 2021. The NRC staff anticipates completing its review and developing a Safety Evaluation Report to address the submittal by the end of May 2021. Your current licenses will remain in effect until this amendment is completed. This schedule is based on an adequate response to one round of RAIs. Incomplete or inadequate answers to RAIs, requiring request for further information may cause delay in issuing a license on that schedule. In addition, the NRC staff estimates that completing the review will require approximately 24 staff hours during the review period. There is no charge for this service.

This licensing amendment request was received via the Region III Office of the (NRC), located in Lisle, IL. For any correspondence or support to Special Nuclear Material License SNM-142, please contact the Project Manager (PM) for Purdue License SMN-142 at the Division of Fuel Management (DFM) in the Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards at the

Headquarters Office of the NRC. Also, please direct a copy of any correspondence to the USNRC Document Control Desk.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Tyrone Naquin at (301) 415-7352, or via e-mail to Tyrone.Naquin@nrc.gov.
