Subject:

10CFR21 Interim Report 21-97-060: Sentry Equipment Corporation Commercial Grade Dedication Pronram Deficiencies

Dear Madam or Sir:

On December 18,1997, Illinois Power (IP) found that Sentry Equipment Corporation (Sentry) did not have documented procedures describing their commercial l grade dedication process. As a result, Sentry lacked suf6cient objective evidence to provide reasonable assurance that items supplied to Illinois Power by Scrary have been procured or tested to requirements needed to demonstrate the capability of the parts to perform their intended safety function. This deficiency was identified during a triennial supplier audit performed to verify adequacy and implementation of the Sentry written quality assurance program. Sentry supplies IP with replacement parts foi the two Drywell and Containment Hydrogen and Oxygen Analyzers at the Clinton Power Station.

IP determined this issue was potentially reportable under the provisions of 10CFR21 on December 23,1997.

Condition Report 1-97-12 289 was initiated to track investigation and resolution of this issue. IP's evaluation of this issue under the provisions of 10CFR21 has not been completed. The evaluation of this issue will be completed by April 4,1998.
