MEMORANDUM FOR: Richard E. Cunningham, Director Division of Fuel Cycle and Material Safety Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards FROM: Patricia G. Norry, Acting Director Office of Administration

SUBJECT:

PROPOSED REVISION OF 10 CFR PART 35 The Office of Administration concurs in the proposed revision of 10 CFR Part 35. Enclosed is a marked-up copy of the draft package containing our comments and editorial corrections. We believe the proposed revision to Part 35 to be a significant improvement to the current regulations governing medical licensing.

-The Division of Rules and Records appreciates the opportunity the task force leader, Dr. William J. Walker, afforded our staff people, John Philips and Michael Lesar, to participate actively in developing this rule through their membership on the task force. Dr. Walker did a very commendable job of motivating, guiding and assisting this task force to f prepare a well-organized, clearly written revision of Part 35 regulations.

This revision draws from a diversity of sources to present a unified statement of requirements which should prove to be a more convenient reference for this large group of NRC licensees. Working on the task force proved to be interesting and beneficial to the staff involved. We would appreciate the opportunity to be involved in any future endeavor of this nature conducted by your staff.

If you have any questions, please contact John D. Philips, Chief, Rules a and Procedures Branch or flichael T. Lesar of his staff on extension 27086.
