Roger Hannah, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Summer Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Carey Mac Read Jr., as the senior resident inspector at the Summer nuclear power plant located near Jenkinsville, S.C., about 26 miles northwest of Columbia. The plant is operated by Dominion Energy.

Read joined the NRC in 2013 as an inspector in the Division of Fuel Facility Inspection in the agencys Region II Atlanta office.

Following a brief stint in the Region II Division of Reactor Projects, he became a resident inspector for the two new units being built at the Summer site before that construction was terminated. He was named the resident inspector at the Surry nuclear power plant in Virginia in 2018.

Before joining the NRC, Read spent two years as a nuclear engineer for URS Corporation.

He holds a B.S. in physics from Davidson College and an M.S. in nuclear engineering from the University of South Carolina.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each operating U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at a reactor site for up to seven years.

The Summer resident inspectors can be reached at 404-997-5250.
