Rules and Directives Branch Division of Administration Services Office of Administration, Mailstop T-6 D 59 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 Ij11 To Whom It May Concern:

It is with pleasure that I recommend the renewal of the operating license for Florida Power and Light's St. Lucie Plant.

As a resident ofSt. Lucie County since December 1996 and Superintendent of Schools, I can attest that FPL has been an outstanding partner to our school district. The plant's Energy Encounter hosts thousands of visitors annually, including many students.

In addition to providing hands-on science programs for schools, free workshops for teachers are offered. The plant donated computers and supplies to local schools, and FPL has made substantial contributions to the Regional Sports Stadium and the St. Lucie County Marine Center.

FPL employees led by Rachel Scott, External Affairs Manager, are active in the community and serve on various boards including the Education Foundation.

In addition, Florida Power and Light is the second largest employer in the county.

with more than 800 full-time workers and contributes more than 80 million to the local economy.

Please contact me ifI can be of further assistance.

Sincerely, y'I Dr. William Vogel Superintendent Cc: Rachel Scott
