S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region II office in Atlanta have announced the promotion of Gerald (Gerry) McCoy to the Senior Resident Inspector at the Surry nuclear power plant in Surry, Virginia. McCoy had been the Resident Inspector at Surry.

McCoy joined the NRC as a project engineer in the Region II office in September 1997. He was then assigned as a Resident Inspector at the Surry plant, where he has worked until his promotion.

Prior to joining the NRC, McCoy worked as an engineer for ADI Technology Corp, an engineering firm in Arlington, Virginia. He also served in the United States Navy as a submarine officer. McCoy holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

McCoy, his wife Barbara and their sons Dan and Sean live in Williamsburg.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has assigned NRC resident inspectors who serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interfacing with plant workers and the public.

McCoy joins Site Secretary Kathy Lippard at the Surry plant, and the NRC office there can be reached at 757-357-2101.
