Dear Senator:

Not long ago it became necessary to replace the steam gener-ator at the Palisades nuclear plant of Consumers Power Co. at South Haven, Mich. Due to high radioactivity in the unit a public hearing was held, I believe at St. Joseph, Mich, to inform the public of the dangers involved and steps being taken to minimize the danger. I do not know who called the hearing, but would as$ume it was the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Although I am active in the anti-nuclear *movement and very sensitive to anything in the news relating to nuclear matters, I had no previous information of the hearing, which I should have liked to attend; in fact the first information I had on the subject was a short announcement on TV, late in the even-ing of the day the hearing was held, stating that it was all over.

Can you help me to find out who called this hearing and why it was not adequately publicized in advance? This appears to be another effort on the part of the nuclear industry and their helpers in the NRC to play down anything bearing on the risks inherent in the nuclear power industry.
