Safety at Nuclear Power Plants Jant OFF1CE OF SECRETARY Gentle persons FWULEMAKINGS AND AC)JUDICATIONS STAFF Over the past 5 years I have been involved in the effort to make nuclear power plants, In particular the Shearon Harris Plant in Wake County, North Carolina, relatively safe. At the present time they are an easy target for terrorists as well as for human errors. It is a sin to put all our lives at such risk, just to save a few dollars.
We have been trying to get Carolina Power and Light, aka Progress Energy, to hold public hearings with regard to safety. Rather than just changing the requirements when they fall short, NRC should be continually thinking of the public safety.
Please, now do the right thing. Require real improvements and real safety tests that are well documented.
Thank you for your consideration. May we all live a life free of the devastation that could come down on us from even a "minor" nuclear catastrophe.
