RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE THREE MILE ISLAND NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1

Dear Dr. Bonaca:

During the 565th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (the Committee) held September 10-12, 2009, the Committee completed its review of the license renewal application for the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1, and the associated final safety evaluation report prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). In the Committees final report, dated September 28, 2009, the Committee recommends renewal of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1, operating license. The NRC staff appreciates the Committees expeditious review of the plants license renewal application and the associated final safety evaluation report.

The staff recognizes the Committees commitment to safety and appreciates its continued support of the license renewal process.
