OPEN ITEM ill (Deliver of Fuel Oil Under Adverse Conditions)

~BESYION:

430 '6 In Section 9.5.4.2 you state that diesel fuel oil is available from local distribution sources. Identify the sources where diesel quality fuel oil will be available and the distances required to be traveled from the source(s) to the plant. Also discuss how fuel oil will be delivered onsite under extremely unfavorable environmental conditions.

RESPONSE

Carolina Power 6 Light Company's primary supplier of diesel fuel oil is located in Greensboro, North Carolina. The primary distributor has subsidiaries located in other cities, and as needed, these terminals can also deliver fuel to SHNPP. The locations of fuel oil suppliers, their distances from SHNPP, and travel routes to SHNPP are identified below:

DISTANCE CITY TO SHNPP TRAVEL ROUTES Selma, NC 45 miles US-70 Greensboro, NC 75 miles I-85; US 1-64 Charlotte, NC 140 miles I-85 Spartanburg, SC 200 miles I-85 Milmington, NC 120 miles US-421; I-95; S-50; US-70; US 1-64, or US-421; S-55; US 1-64 Because travel routes are major highways, inclement weather will not adversely affect the delivery of fuel oil; routine deliveries have been made under snow, ice, and storm conditions in the past.

In addition to two 3,000 gallon day tanks, the two diesel fuel oil tanks each hold 175,000 gallons of fuel, for a total of 356,000 gallons of fuel onsite.

This is approximately a 30-day fuel oil supply, and, due to the quantity, delivery schedules can be made in advance, thereby not presenting the potential for lack of fuel oil for diesel generator operation.
