KEWAUNEE REACTOR SHUTDOWN (UPDATE)DESCRIPTION:

On Friday, March 9, 2007, the licensee restarted the Kewaunee Power Station after a 10-dayoutage. The outage was the result of an automatic reactor trip that occurred while the licenseewas conducting a routine test of a nuclear power measuring instrument. The licensee wasunable to identify the problem that resulted in the automatic trip, but did replace 88 relaysassociated with the reactor trip system. In addition, maintenance activities and engineeringevaluations related to plant electrical systems were completed during the outage in response toquestions raised by the NRC during a recent Component Design Bases Inspection.The NRC resident inspectors monitored the licensee's troubleshooting and maintenanceactivities, and observed the restart of the reactor.The State of Wisconsin was notified.
