SUBJECT:

EXTENSION OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD ON DRAFT LICENSE RENEWAL INTERIM STAFF GUIDANCE (LR-ISG), LR-ISG-2011-01, "AGING MANAGEMENT OF STAINLESS STEEL STRUCTURES AND COMPONENTS IN TREATED BORATED WATER"

Dear Ms. Keys:

In response to your letter dated November 14, 2011, "Request for Comments on Draft NRC Interim Staff Guidance, LR-ISG-2011-01, 'Aging Management of Stainless Steel Structures and Components in Treated Borated Water' Docket ID NRC-2011-0256," I am writing to inform you that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is granting the Nuclear Energy Institute's request to extend the public comment period on draft LR-ISG-2011-01. As announced in the enclosed Federal Register notice, the NRC has extended the comment period until December 17, 2011.

On November 8, 2011, the NRC requested public comments on draft LR-ISG-2011-01 in Volume 76, page 69292, of the Federal Register. This LR-ISG revises the guidance in the Standard Review Plan for the Review of License Renewal Applications for the Nuclear Power Plants (SRP-LR) and Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report for the aging management of stainless steel structures and components exposed to treated borated water.

To inform other stakeholders of the extension of the public comment period and the opportunity to participate in the public meeting, courtesy copies of this letter are being sent to subscribers of an NRC electronic mailing list on general license renewal topics.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. John Wise of my staff by telephone at 301-415-8489 or by e-mail at John.Wise@nrc.gov. Sincerely, /RA/

Melanie A. Galloway, Acting Director Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
