Subject:

Request for an Extension of the Comment Period on the Petition for Rulemaking, Docket No.

PRM-50-124 (Docket ID: NRC-2022-0178) (Federal Register Notice 87FR71531)

Dear Ms. Brooke P. Clark,

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 1, on behalf of the industry, appreciates the opportunity to review and provide comments on the Petition for Rulemaking, Docket No. PRM-50-124.

In Federal Register Notice 87FR71531, Docket ID: NRC-2022-0178, dated November 23, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requested that stakeholder comments be submitted by February 6, 2023. NEI requests a 30-day extension to the comment period to March 8, 2023. This extension is necessary to permit adequate stakeholder engagement on this complex and important topic as the original comment period extended over two major holidays resulting in many stakeholders being unavailable to thoroughly review and comment on the proposal.

We appreciate the NRC staffs consideration of this extension and request that a response be provided by January 27, 2023. Please contact me at fap@nei.org or (202) 739-8132 if you have any questions.

Sincerely, Frances A. Pimentel 1
