Fermi 2 represents a safe andreliable source of energy for our state in addition to an economic anchor for our community, andI urge the Commission to authorize the license renewal to ensure a dependable supply ofelectricity for southeast Michigan in the years to come. For over 25 years, Fermi 2 has provided a substantial amount of energy to meet the needs ofDTE's customers. At 1,100 megawatts of generating capacity -30% of Michigan's total nuclearcapacity -replacing this source of power would come at a great cost to many families andbusinesses in Michigan.Fermi 2 has already demonstrated its ability to be a secure, reliable, long-term, and inexpensivesource of electricity for southeast Michigan. Additionally, its presence and its employeescontribute to the economic and social vitality of Monroe County, which has benefited fromgood-paying jobs, considerable philanthropic efforts, and millions of dollars in local taxrevenues. The premature retirement of Fermi 2 would have significant consequences for the people ofMonroe County and the entire region and DTE Energy should be recognized for anticipatingMichigan's future energy needs in pursuing the license renewal. I believe nuclear energy andEnrico Ferni Unit 2 are vitally important to my constituents and Michigan's energy future, and Ihope the Commission will expeditiously approve this extension.Sincerely,Tim WalbergMember of C ress%VAZINGQN. ~g:JACKSOtJ2436 RAYBURN HOUSE OFFICE BUILDING 110 1ST STREET, SUITE 2WASHINGTON, D.C. 20515 JACKSON, MI 49201(202) 225-6276 (517) 780-9075FAX: (202) 225-6281 FAX: (517) 780-9081DOIKMTrf A)M PnrVrvi CA) 05051
