Subject:

Request for an Extension of Comment Period on Draft Revised Regulatory Basis (Enhanced Security of Special Nuclear Material; Docket ID NRC-2014-0118)

Project Number: 689

Dear Ms. Vietti-Cook:

On behalf of its members, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 1 appreciates the opportunity to review and provide comments on the Draft Revised Regulatory Basis for the Enhanced Security of Special Nuclear Material Rulemaking.

In a Federal Register Notice dated March 01, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requested that stakeholder comments be submitted by April 01, 2019. NEI requests an extension of the comment period by 18 days to Friday April 19, 2019. This would allow us time to develop and submit comments in response to previously scheduled public meeting discussions on April 03, 2019 related to generic fuel cycle regulatory initiatives, to include this rulemaking.

If you have questions or require additional information, please contact Hilary Lane at (202) 739-8148 hml@nei.org.

Sincerely, Janet Schlueter c: Mr. Michael King, NRC/NMSS/FCSE Mr. Timothy Harris, NRC/NSIR Mr. Edward Lohr, NRC/NMSS 1
