Inspection Report No. 50-219/85-19

This refers to the routine resident safety inspection by Messrs. W. Bateman,

J. Wechselberger, W. Baunack, and H. Bicehouse from June 3 - 30, 1985, at the

Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station. The inspection consisted of document

reviews, interviews, and observations of activities as documented in the enclosed

inspection report. The findings were discussed with you and members of your

staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified.

This inspection Report summarizes the followup meeting held in Region I with

members of GPUN management to discuss results of recent hanger inspections and

a justification for continued operation based on the large number of identified

disc.epancies.

Also discussed were GPUN's problems with identification and

resolution of old issues and weaknesses in their configuration control program.

The respor.se of the plant operators to the scram from full power operation on

June 12, 1985 was observed and noted by the inspectors to be commendable.
