UPDATE:  ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2, FIRE IN AUXILIARY TRANSFORMER
 
DESCRIPTION: 
 
On December 10, 2013, at 5:23 a.m. (CST), the licensee completed cooling down Unit 2 to cold shutdown. The licensee is currently working to secure the emergency diesel generator and power both safety-related buses with off-site power. Unit 1 is operating at 100 percent power. 
 
On December 9, 2013, at 12:15 p.m. (CST), Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO), Unit 2 exited the
 
Notice of Unusual Event. 
 
At 1:06 p.m. (CST), the NRC returned to Normal Mode following the response to events at Unit 2.
 
The site resident inspectors will continue to monitor licensee actions to identify the cause of the explosion and fire in the Unit 2 auxiliary transformer, restore off-site power, and repair damaged equipment.
 
The State of Arkansas was notified. 
 
This information presented herein has been discussed with the licensee and is current as of 11:22 a.m. (CST) on December 10, 2013.
