December 10, 2013 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE -- PNO-IV-13004A This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region IV, Arlington, Texas, staff on this date.

SUBJECT:
UPDATE: ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2, FIRE IN AUXILIARY TRANSFORMER DESCRIPTION:
On December 10, 2013, at 5:23 a.m. (CST), the licensee completed cooling down Unit 2 to cold shutdown. The licensee is currently working to secure the emergency diesel generator and power both safety-related buses with off-site power. Unit 1 is operating at 100 percent power.
On December 9, 2013, at 12:15 p.m. (CST), Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO), Unit 2 exited the Notice of Unusual Event.
At 1:06 p.m. (CST), the NRC returned to Normal Mode following the response to events at Unit 2.
The site resident inspectors will continue to monitor licensee actions to identify the cause of the explosion and fire in the Unit 2 auxiliary transformer, restore off-site power, and repair damaged equipment.
The State of Arkansas was notified.
