In accordance with 10CFR50.55(e), the Region II office (Mr.R.Bradley)was officially notified of the subject deficiency as being a"potentially reportable" item on November 2, 1979.At this time, Mr.R.Bradley was informed that field welds on 9 Seismic Class I hangers were noted by a QA Inspector to be rejectable per the visual acceptance criteria of AWS D 1.1 and that these welds had previously been accepted by a QA Inspector who is no longer working for the Carolina Power&Light Company.On November 26, 1979, the Region II office (Mr.R.Bradley)was officially notified that the subject deficiency was considered report-, able under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

The intent of this letter is to inform you that all corrective action has not been completed on this item due to the extensive nature of the rework.The current status of corrective action on the subject deficiency is as follows: l.A 100%inspection revealed that there are 331 such hangers in question which had previously been inspected by this QA Inspector.

2.192 out of these 331 hangers on subsequent reinspection have now been rejected for defective welds.3.Approximately 135 of these 192 hangers have, to date, been reworked.4., Out of approximately 135 hangers reworked, approximately 67 have been reinspected and found acceptable.

In accordance with 10CFR50.55(e), the Region II office (Mr. R. Bradley) was officially notified of the subject deficiency as being a "potentially reportable" item on November 2, 1979. At this time, Mr. R.
