Recent Correspondence Regarding Peach Bottom Nuclear Plant Performance Mr. Balboa, This refers to your January 9, 2019, email to Chairman Kristine Svinicki, in which you forwarded a Lancaster News Online article on the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.

Specifically, you asked that the plant come under greater NRC scrutiny in response to a damage to the emergency diesel generator in June of last year. Our initial findings that resulted in the violation you read about in the news article can be found in our 3rd Quarter 2018 Inspection report for Peach Bottom. That and all inspection reports for all nuclear plants in the U.S. can be found on the NRC website. The 3rd Quarter 2018 report (2018003) discussed the circumstances of the failure, and the preliminary White finding was finalized in a letter to Exelon dated December 11, 2018 which not only documented the violation, but also discussed the increased level of inspection that Exelon would receive as a result.

Once the licensee has evaluated their performance, identified the root cause of the failure, and implemented corrective actions, the NRC will perform a supplemental inspection, in addition to our usual baseline inspections, to assess the adequacy of the corrective actions.

We anticipate the supplemental inspection will occur later this year. Once complete, that inspection report will be available to the public at the website listed above. It is also distributed via our electronic distribution system. You can sign up for this service at https://

www.nrc.gov/public-involve/listserver/plants-by-region.html if you would like to automatically receive correspondence related to Peach Bottom (or other NRC-related activities).

Thank you for notifying us of your concerns. Should you have any additional questions, or if the NRC can be of further assistance, please call me at the regional office: 610-337-5337 or via email jonathan.greives@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, Jonathan Greives Chief, Projects Branch 4 Division of Reactor Projects, Region 1 (610) 337-5337 (W) jonathan.greives@nrc.gov
