NRC STAFFS MARCH 2012 BIMONTHLY REPORT REGARDING THE SCHEDULE FOR REVIEW OF THE WATTS BAR NUMBER 2 LICENSE APPLICATION The Staff of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (Staff) hereby provides the information requested by the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (Board) in its May 26, 2010 Scheduling Order (Order). In the Order, the Board instructed the Staff to submit a report on July 2, 2010, to be updated on the first Tuesday of every other month thereafter, updating its estimates of the dates on which the final Environmental Impact Statement ("EIS") and the final Safety Evaluation Report ("SER") will be issued, and in addition, promptly to inform the Board of any other developments that could potentially impact the schedule for this proceeding.
The Staff hereby notifies the Board that the Staff now estimates June of 2012, instead of May of 2012, for publication of the final supplement to the environmental review document NUREG-0498, Supplement 2, Draft Final Environmental Impact Statement, Related to the Operation of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 2.
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has made it widely-known that TVA is changing the Watts Bar Unit 2 completion dates, and the project might not be finished by 2013, but that TVA is currently working to determine a new completion date. Nonetheless, the Staff continues to estimate June of 2012 for publication of the final supplement to NUREG-0847, Safety
Evaluation Report Related to the Operation of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, (June 1982), which will be presented to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. However, the Staff anticipates that it will issue one or more additional supplements to the SER during the time period that Watts Bar Unit 2 remains unfinished.
