W0L.F CREEK 'NUCLEAR OPERATING CORPORATION June 30, 2010 Stephen E. Hedges Site Vice President WO 10-0045 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Revision to Response to NRC Generic Letter 2007-01 Gentlemen:

The reference provided the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) 90-day response to NRC Generic Letter 2007-01, "Inaccessible or Underground Power Cable Failures that Disable Accident Mitigation Systems or Cause Plant Transients." The generic letter requested licensees to provide a history of inaccessible or underground power cable failures and to describe inspection, testing and monitoring programs to detect the degradation of inaccessible or underground power cables for cables within the scope of 10 CFR 50.65.

On June 28, 2010, while reviewing the reference response, WCNOC discovered an error in the letter. In the attachment, in WCNOC's response to NRC Requested Information Item (2),

second paragraph, WCNOC made the following statement:

"WCNOC periodically performs visual inspection for corrosion and degradation of cable tray supports and visual inspection of the ends of the cables for jacket degradation of medium voltage cables installed in manholes."

Although the WCNOC inspection process in place at the time of submittal of the reference letter visually inspected medium voltage cables installed in manholes for jacket degradation, the inspection process did not include visual inspection of ends of the cables and did not apply to all medium voltage cables.

WO 10-0045 Page 2 of 3 Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(f), the original sentence described above should be replaced with the following:

"WCNOC periodically performs visual inspection for corrosion and degradation of cable tray supports and cable jackets for selected medium voltage cables installed in manholes."

Subsequent to the submittal of the reference letter, through involvement in industry activities associated with inaccessible or underground cable, as well as site-specific experience, WCNOC has modified the process for visual inspections inside cable manholes.

This letter contains no commitments. The reference letter also contained no commitments. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me at (620) 364-4190, or Mr.

Richard D. Flannigan at (620) 364-4117.
