AmerenUE PO Box 620 Callaway Plant Fulton, MIO65251 October 18, 2004 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Mail Stop P I -137 Washington, DC 20555-0001 ULNRC-05064 Ladies and Gentlemen:

CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT I UNION ELECTRIC CO.

wAmeren N1 FUF DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 REQUEST FOR RELIEF FOR THE CALLAWAY PLANT INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM

Reference:

ULNRC-05024, dated July 6, 2004 The above referenced letter transmitted for NRC approval Relief Request ISI-32 concerning an extension of the 2nd 10 Year Interval Inservice Inspection Program. Relief Request ISI-32 asked for an interval extension beyond the one (1) year extension allowed by 10 CFR 50.55a. The requested extension of the current interval would accommodate Callaway's replacement steam generator project.

Callaway Plant is preparing to replace all four steam generators during Refuel 14 (Fall 2005).

After further consideration, AmerenUE has decided to withdraw Relief Request ISI-32. This letter provides notice that AmerenUE intends to take the one year extension allowed by 10 CFR 50.55a. If required beyond this extension, relief requests will be submitted on a case by case basis.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Dave Shafer at (314) 554-3104 or Dwyla Walker at (314) 554-2126.

Sincerely, Keith D. Young Manager, Regulatory Affairs DJW/jdg a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation
