SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS.

50-445 AND 50-446 TRACEABILITY OF 1E PIGTAIL EXTENSIONS SDAR: CP-86-38 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On May 27, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving the failure of project procedures to adequately address the installation and inspection criteria for cable runs used as device pigtail extensions.

This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provision of 10CFR50.55(e). We have submitted interim reports logged TXX-4873 and TXX-4925, dated June 26, 1986, and July 21, 1986, respectively.

The analysis noted in our previous response to determine the impact of the lack of traceability of pigtail extensions has been concluded by Gibbs & Hill.

Currently, field verifications are scheduled to begin in mid-October 1986 to identify the location of existing pigtail extensions.

Using this as-built data, an evaluation will be performed to review the specific significance of this issue.

We are continuing our evaluation and anticipate submitting our next report by December 17, 1986.

Very truly yours,
