COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 TURBINE DISK INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Noonan:
Low pressure turbine disk cracking in Utility Power Corporation (UPC) turoines was the subject of a meeting with the NRC staff in Bethesda on Septemoer 19, 1984.
During this meeting UPC representatives presented two engineering reports; ER-8401 " Ultrasonic Disk Inspection" dated July, 1984 and ER-8402 "ProDanility of Disk Cracking Due to Stress Corrosion", dated August 1984. These reports which were subsequently docketed by TXX-4323 dated Octooer 5,1984, provided the basis for the UPC reconnended L.P.
turoine disk inspection interval of 50,000 operating hours.
i CPSES has incorporated the UPC reconnendation into the overall Turoine Generator Inspection Plan (attached) for Units 1 and 2.
We request that the current licensing condition concerning turoine disk inspection be modified to only require an ultrasonic inspection of each low pr9ssure turoine disk once every 50,000 operating hours.
