3 PORV's and Saftey Valves Summary On January 3, 1988, while filling and venting the reactor coolant system, a reactor coolant pump was actuated with the reactor coolant system at less than 350 degrees F in a water solid condition and secondary water temperatures greater than 50 degrees F above RCS cold leg temperatures. This resulted in a pressure spike which prompted the actuation of a pressurizer power-operated relief valve (PORV). This event is described in detail in LER 88-001.
