Items of Interest Week Ending October 7, 2022 Executives for Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant Visit the NRC On October 6, 2022, both the Chief Nuclear Officer of Luminant Corporation, which operates Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant (CPNPP), and the Chief Executive Officer for VISTRA Corporation, which owns CPNPP, was at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

Headquarters to take part in an in-person submittal of the initial license renewal application (LRA) and a photo session with the NRR Office Director. CPNPP is a two-unit pressurized water reactor site located in Glen Rose, Texas. The LRA was formally submitted on October 3, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22276A082).

Florida Power & Light Company Submits Response to the NRC on Turkey Point Digital Instrumentation and Controls On October 5, 2022, Florida Power & Light Company submitted its response to the NRC staffs request for supplemental information (ML22255A050) that was issued to the licensee on September 15, 2022, concerning its Turkey Point digital instrumentation and controls license amendment requests. The response is available in ADAMS at Accession No. ML22278A076 (non-proprietary). The NRC staff acceptance review of the license amendment requests (including supplemental information) is ongoing.

Items of Interest Week Ending October 7, 2022 Issuance of the Revision No. 23 of the Certificate of Compliance No. 5797 for the High Flux Isotope Reactor Unirradiated Fuel Element Shipping Container On October 3, 2022, staff issued to the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) Revision No. 23 of the Certificate of Compliance No. 5797 for the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) Unirradiated Fuel Element Shipping Container. This package ships contents described as U3O8-Al cermet, enriched up to 95% in U-235, and clad in aluminum. This amendment allows DOE to (i) install, prior to shipments, fuel combs on the HFIR unirradiated inner or outer fuel elements, (ii) incorporate in the safety analysis report the as-built tie-down band design change authorized by U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Letter Authorization issued on April 15, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML22105A053), and (iii) delete a requirement for a 3-year periodic inspection of the containers against the design drawings.
