Items of Interest Week Ending May 11, 2018 H.B. Robinson Flood Mitigating Strategy Assessment On May 9, 2018, the staff completed its review of the H. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit 2 (Robinson) flood hazard mitigating strategies assessment (MSA) and issued its staff assessment. This was the first flood MSA that used an alternate mitigating strategy (AMS). An AMS is based specifically upon the reevaluated flood hazard as the defined external event. The AMS can use any configuration of equipment (e.g., protective features, plant equipment, and/or FLEX equipment) to maintain or restore core cooling, containment, and spent fuel pool cooling capabilities. The staff has concluded that the MSA was performed consistent with the NRC-endorsed guidance and that the licensee has demonstrated that the AMS, if appropriately implemented, is reasonably protected from reevaluated flood hazard conditions.
