Letter from James T. Wiggins, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to Thomas Joyce, Nuclear Energy Institute, Emergency Preparedness Working Group-
"Emergency Response Data System Modernization Schedule," dated June 21,
2011 By letter dated June 21, 2011 (Reference), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) solicited support from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) to work with licensees to establish firm schedules to facilitate modernization of the Emergency Response Data System (EROS). The NRC plans to discontinue use of "dial-up" modems as a means for licensees to transmit required EROS data to the NRC. The NRC plans to decommission the existing "dial-up" modem technology by June 30, 2012, and will transition to use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) devices as a means to transmit EROS data to the NRC.
In response to this request, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon) is providing the following information concerning the current status and proposed schedule for transitioning the remaining facilities to the VPN-based EROS.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission EROS Modernization Schedule July 27, 2011 Page 3 Exelon is devoting the appropriate resources to support implementation of the VPN-based EROS technology and intends to transition those facilities not already completed to the new system as indicated in the above schedule.
There are no regulatory commitments contained in this submittal. Any significant changes in the above schedule that could adversely impact the timely and effective implementation of the new system as specified in the referenced letter will be appropriately communicated to the NRC.
