No: IV-15-018 June 22, 2015 CONTACT: Victor Dricks (817) 200-1128 Lara Uselding (817) 200-1519 NRC to Discuss Performance Assessment for Waterford 3 Nuclear Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting with representatives from Entergy Operations on July 7 to discuss the agencys assessment of safety performance at the Waterford 3 nuclear plant. The plant is located in Killona, La.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the Saint Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center, 15026 River Road, Hahnville, La.

The NRC continually reviews the performance of Waterford 3 and each of the nations commercial nuclear power plants, said Region IV Administrator Marc Dapas. This meeting will provide an opportunity for a discussion of our assessment of safety performance with the company and with local officials and residents who live near the plant.

A letter sent from the NRC Region IV office to plant officials will serve as the basis for the meeting discussion. It is available on the NRC web site .The NRC evaluates performance at commercial nuclear plants with a color-coded process that classifies inspection findings as green, white, yellow or red in order of increasing safety significance, as well as performance indicators, which are statistical measurements of plant performance that can trigger additional oversight if exceeded.

Waterford 3 operated safely during 2014. However, NRC issued a white finding in connection with the failure of an emergency diesel generator room fan. On April 9, the NRC closed the white finding following successful completion of a supplemental inspection.

Waterford 3 will receive the very detailed inspection regime during 2015 used by the NRC for plants that are operating well. These inspections are performed by resident inspectors stationed at the plant and by inspection specialists from the NRCs Region IV office in Arlington, Texas.

Current performance information for Waterford 3 is available on the NRC web site.
