No: II-14-047 September 2, 2014 CONTACT: Roger Hannah 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford 404-997-4416 NRC Assigns New Resident Inspector to Catawba Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Lundy Pressley to serve as the new Resident Inspector at the Catawba nuclear plant, which is located about 18 miles south of Charlotte. Pressley joins Senior Resident Inspector Andy Hutto at the plant, which is operated by Duke Energy.

Pressley joined the NRC in 2008 as a project engineer in the Resident Inspector Development Program in the NRCs Region II offices in Atlanta. He became a Resident Inspector at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in north Alabama in 2010.

Before joining the agency, Pressley was attached to the U.S.

Navy as a Qualified Shift Refueling Engineer based out of the Norfolk (Va.) Naval Shipyard. As a civilian engineer for the Navy, Pressley refueled Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines and refueled and deactivated Los Angeles-class submarines. He also served as the lead reactor vessel head maintenance engineer for Improved Los Angeles-class subs and Nimitz-class aircraft carriers in the Atlantic fleet. Pressley received a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from North Carolina State University.

Lundy Pressley has the commitment and background to carry out the NRC mission of protecting people and the environment by helping ensure the safety of the Catawba plant, said NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree.

At least two NRC Resident Inspectors are assigned to each operating U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident Inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
