The inspection is part of anongoing NRC review of a license renewal application for the plant, which is located southwest of Raleigh,N.C., and operated by Progress Energy.The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the New Horizons Fellowship Annex, 820Williams Street in Apex. Members of the public are i nvited to observe and will have an opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials before the meeting ends.In November 2006, Progress Energy applied to the NRC for a 20-year extension of the operating license for the Harris plant. An impor tant aspect of the review process is to ensure that a plant can managethe effects of aging on key safety systems, structures and components through an effective monitoring andmaintenance program.The current operating license for the Harris plant expires on Oct. 24, 2026.A copy of the plants license renewal applica tion is available via the NRCs web site at:www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing
