Scott Burnell, 301-415-8200 Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to Hold Oral Argument on Hearing Request for Seabrook License Amendment A Nuclear Regulatory Commission Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will hold an online video conference June 29 to hear oral arguments on a hearing request regarding a proposed license amendment for the Seabrook reactor in Seabrook, N.H. The board is composed of members of the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel, which is an independent body within the NRC that conducts adjudicatory hearings and renders decisions on legal challenges to licensing actions.

The board will hear arguments on contentions filed by the C-10 Research and Education Foundation. The contentions challenge a request from Seabrooks owner, NextEra Energy, to amend the plants license regarding analyses of concrete degradation caused by the alkali-silica reaction.

The video conference will begin at 10 a.m., with the board participating from the ASLBP Hearing Room at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md. The public and media are welcome to observe the oral argument in person or via telephone, but participation will be limited to the representatives of C-10, NextEra and NRC staff.

Those interesting in attending or listening should contact Julie Reynolds-Engel at 301-415-5680 or julie.reynolds-engel@nrc.gov by June 27. Those planning to attend should arrive at least 20 minutes early to allow time for security screening. No signs or any type of demonstration will be permitted in the hearing room.

Documents related to the hearing request are available on the NRCs Electronic Hearing Docket by clicking on the folder entitled Seabrook 50-443-LA2 on the left side of the page. More information about the role of the ASLB in the licensing process is available on the NRC website.
