Diane Screnci 610/337-5330 Neil Sheehan 610/337-5331 NEW NRC INSPECTOR ASSIGNED TO SEABROOK STATION Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Jonathan Johnson as the new Resident Inspector at the Seabrook nuclear power plant. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Bill Raymond at the site in Seabrook, N.H.

Johnson joined the NRC in 2006 as an emergency preparedness specialist in the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md. Prior to joining the agency, he worked at the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Lusby, Md., for 14 years in the health physics, licensing and emergency preparedness departments, and at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Va. He served in the United States Navy as a machinist mate aboard the USS South Carolina. Johnson earned a bachelors degree in radiation protection from Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey.

AJon Johnson has the training, background and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants," said NRC Region I Administrator Samuel J. Collins.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
