Diane Screnci, 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan, 610-337-5331 NRC to Hold Regulatory Conference with Entergy Regarding Apparent Violation at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will conduct a regulatory conference with Entergy on July 13 to discuss an apparent violation of NRC requirements at the Pilgrim nuclear power plant, in Plymouth, Mass.

The meeting, which will be open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., at the NRCs Region I Office, located at 2100 Renaissance Blvd., in King of Prussia, Pa. Directions to the office are available on the NRCs website. For those unable to attend in person, a phone bridge line is available: 1-888-807-1152, passcode 7224744 #. Following completion of the NRCs discussion with Entergy, the plants owner and operator, members of the public will be able to ask questions of agency staff.

The violation involves one of the plants emergency diesel generators and has been preliminarily classified as greater than green (i.e., greater than low to moderate safety significance).

If finalized at that level, it would result in additional NRC oversight in that area.

Emergency diesel generators provide back-up power to nuclear plant safety systems if power from the electrical grid is interrupted. The concern in this case centers on whether the maintenance for a redesigned component of the generator was appropriate and would have prevented the generator from being out of service for a longer-than-allowed period.

NRC officials will not render a decision on the matter at the meeting but rather after careful consideration of the information provided. The decision will be documented in publicly available correspondence.
