No. I-17-002 January 23, 2017 CONTACT: Diane Screnci, 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan, 610-337-5331 NRC Plans Plymouth Public Meeting to Discuss Reviews at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission senior staff will meet with the public on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Plymouth, Mass., to discuss the preliminary findings of a team inspection recently completed at the Pilgrim nuclear power plant. Pilgrim, a boiling-water reactor owned and operated by Entergy, is located in Plymouth.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., in the Grand Ballroom at the Hotel 1620 Plymouth Harbor, located at 180 Water St., in Plymouth. Attendees will have an opportunity to offer comments and pose questions to NRC staff prior to the meetings conclusion.

We recognize the publics interest in learning more about our inspectors findings from their evaluations at the plant, NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said. This meeting will provide an avenue for us to share, at a high level, our latest assessment.

The public meeting is being held at the request of Massachusetts governor, Charles Baker, and other federal/state officials.

In late November, the NRC initiated its third and largest team inspection at Pilgrim since the plant came under heightened agency oversight in September 2015, following its Column 4 ranking in the agencys Action Matrix. This Phase C inspection evaluated a variety of aspects of the plants performance. The teams third and final week of on-site reviews was concluded on Jan. 13, 2017. A report containing the teams formal conclusions will be developed based on an analysis of all the information gathered.

Based on the results of this review and the earlier inspections, the agencys Executive Director for Operations, in conjunction with the Region I Administrator and the Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, will determine whether additional NRC actions are warranted.
