REMEDIATION PLAN The Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeks public comment on a draft environmental impact statement for the Sequoyah Fuels Corp.s plan for surface reclamation at its former uranium conversion site near Gore, Okla. A public meeting will be held Oct. 16 in Gore to present the draft report and accept comments from the public.

The draft environmental impact statement is part of the NRCs review of Sequoyahs proposed surface reclamation and groundwater corrective actions. The report contains the NRC staffs preliminary conclusion that impacts of the proposed actions on the physical environment and human communities nearby would be small, while impacts on land use are classified as moderate.

The final environmental impact statement will be issued after the staff has addressed public comments on the draft report.

NRC staff members will present the draft report and hear public comments Tuesday, Oct.

16, at the Gore High School, 1200 Northway 10, beginning with an informal open house at 6 p.m. and a formal transcribed meeting from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Anyone wishing to speak at the meeting, or anyone who requires special equipment or accommodations, should contact Allen Fetter, NRC project manager, at 301-415-8556, by Oct. 4. People wishing to speak may also register at the meeting.

The draft environmental impact statement is available on the NRC Web site at this address: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/nuregs/staff/sr1888/.
